"The Boxer"

South Australia, McLaren Vale

McLaren Vale, Adelaide. South Australia

Mollydooker “The Boxer”, is a Shiraz from McLaren Vale. The region is one of the few famous wine terroirs in Southern Australia. They are located about 20 miles south from the town of Adelaide. (33 kilometers). The Region is on the gulf, (St. Vincent).  An inlet, on the west side of the coast. They are well known for Shiraz, but also produce ultra-premium Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Vale has also turned out some decent European Varietals as well. Sangiovese, and Tempranillo have done well and whites such as Fiano. The Big Stars there are definitely the Shiraz and Grenache.

They have been producing wine for over 150 years but are fairly new to the global wine scene. Wines in Australia started to receive acclaim and praise during the 1980s and 90s and have remained popular ever since. The Wines from Australia are called ‘New World’ Wines. They typically exhibit more fruit, more oak and higher alcohol. They are considered more powerful and “masculine”,  McLaren Vale is an ideal geographic climate, allowing light local breezes to blow in from the gulf to cool and dry the vines. The Soil is Sandy Loam with underlying Yellow Clay and Limestone.

...More about the Estate

McLaren Vale. This Region has been producing wine for close to 100 years. The Mollydooker winery is a newcomer that was established in 2006 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis. The Couple had made names for themselves as award winning winemakers prior to them starting their own brand. The name Mollydooker, is slang, (Or Aussie) for “Left-handed Slugger.” Which seems appropriate when discussing their punchy and bold wine portfolio.

They have several Shiraz styles along with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Red Blends. They also have a White Verdelho called “The Violinist”. The estate is run by Sarah Marquis as she is now the Chief Winemaker, and Sole owner. Some of their labels are inspired by her children and now assistants at the Mollydooker winery. See 1). “Blue Eyed Boy”, and 2).’The Gigglepot” for instance. Read more about them: http://www.Mollydookerwines.com
