Tuscany, is one of the most famous regions it Italy.  In the world for that matter.  The region, is well known for  having several different grape varieties and styles of wine. Some food friendly. Some affordable and approachable. Others more expensive and expressive. Many white and red wines alike. 

Today we are looking at the 2017 Santa Cristina Chianti Superiore. DOCG. Chianti Classico. The Wine is produced by a world-class winemaker and a famous Italian estate. Villa Antinori.  The Antinori Winery is a large and high quality producer of well known wines from Tuscany, Italy. 

The Red Wines from Tuscany are some of the best and oldest wines in the world. Chianti For Instance. One of the red wines at the top of the list. The Wine has been produced in Italy since the 14th century. Chianti is a region or zone of wine production. It is also the name of the famous wine located in the heart of central Tuscany, Italy.

Antinori produces a lot of high quality and expensive wines. Some Iconic. And they are exquisite. But lets be real. We can’t all drink wine like that on an everyday basis. But Damn don’t I wish!!! The Winery also produces a few high quality and more affordable wines. This 2017 Santa Cristina Chianti Superiore, is a perfect example. How can you get a DOCG Chianti from a quality producer like Antinori for less than $20 bucks…..???  This wine is made to be more affordable. Yet you can tell there is some quality winemaking behind the product. and for the price? Therefore Im a fan of this wine. Nose: Blackberry. Red Plum. Cranberry. Subtle Oak. Toast. Light Vanilla. Cinnamon, baking spice.

Palate: Red &Black Fruit. Spice. Toasty light wood and oak. 

Additional notes:

Medium body. Dry finish. Medium Tannin. Elevated Acidity. Light subtle oak on finish.

Grape Varietals: 80 percent Sangiovese. (DOCG rules for Chianti Classico). 15-20 percent Merlot. Small amounts of the blending grape Canaiolo.
